"I really am sorry. It's just that I'm new to this whole deputy thing. And...to tell you the truth, purposefully helping cats is a lot harder than doing it as a spur-of-the-moment thing. When you're the deputy, cats expect you to be there with the right answers and encouragement." Sparhawk replied, unsure if he really should be saying this, but everything was just coming out.

((I wish I could answer that with 'You're only human' but I can't...))
"You know, you don't have to be a great omnipotent deputy at first." she said. "It's not like everything needs to be figured out in one day. You'll get the hang of it. I'm sure when Hawkstar was deputy she didn't know how to do everything in her first few days." Looking around for a moment, the she-cat looked back to Sparhawk. "Trust me, you'll figure out how to be the big important deputy in due time."

((lol, sorry for such a late post.))
Sparhawk looked at Minnowleg. "I hope so." He said, "because if not I'll probably have to run away or get myself killed so Hawkstar can choose a new, better deputy. And," the tom looked around and then looked at the other warrior before continuing "I don't want to die."

"I bet you wouldn't." she said, laughing slighty at what he said, even if it wasn't supposed to be funny. "Nobody would want to die. Besides, you're not that bad a deputy. Really, you'll get used to it, I'm sure. Hawkstar chose you, which means at the moment there isn't any better cat to be deputy, or who she thinks should be."

"That's reassuring." Sparhawk grumbled. He was still a little unsure of himself, being so new to the whole deputy business, but hearing Minnowleg's words made him feel a little better. "You know, if you keep this up I may have to resign so you can be the new deputy."

Minnowleg laughed quite loudly, though stopped quickly. That probably sounded stupid. "I'm sorry, but you do that, and you'd be signing the clan's deather warrant. Trust me, the clan will never want me as deputy, and if there is ever a Minnowstar other than Minnowleg, then I think it would be in everyone's best interest to overrun me. I'm young right now, though it wouldn't be too wise to make me deputy even when I'm older." The light colored she-cat thought that Sparkhawk was being hard on himself. She was sure he'd make a good deputy, and eventually leader.

Sparhawk smiled weakly at Minnowleg's words. "Don't say that. I'm sure that if you become deputy you'll do fine."

"Trust me, I wouldn't. But good thing is I'll never become deputy." Looking around, slightly bored look on her face. "Doesn't seem like there's much prey around here. I don't scent any at least." the lanky warrior muttered.

"Ok then, let's go a little farhter. There is bound to be more pray...somewhere." Sparhawk said, wanting to change the subject so Minnowleg would not have much time to contemplate the odds of her becoming deputy. That wasn't something that the tom wanted to think about right now.

"Whatever." the she-cat said, shrugging. That had been the whole reason for coming out, though she hadn't actually done anything hunting yet. "I do need to catch something though, it's the reason I came out. I'm going to look like an idiot if I come back empty handed, and you have something. You didn't even plan to hunt I bet."

"I'm sorry. Do you want me to leave while you hunt or can I stay to keep you company?" Sparhawk asked, feeling a little guilty that he had taken Minnowleg's pray.

"No it's fine." the light orange she-cat said, shaking her head. "I was just saying. It's normal though, I've never been too good when it came to catching prey. Or not all the time. Besides, I can't tell you what to do, not my place. You can stay if you want, it would be good if someone caught something."

"I'll stay. Maybe together we can catch something." Sparhawk said, trying to be encouraging. Suddenly, he smelt something, it was another mouse. THe large tom was about to say something, but thought better of it. He wo uld let Minnowleg scent the mouse and catch it on her own.

After a few moments, Minnowleg's ears perked, her eyes scanning the area. She swore that something was around here, some prey. Looking over to Sparhawk for a moment. She gave a silent 'be right back' and quickly but silently stalked off.
The orange creamy she-cat came back a moment later, a mouse clasped in her mouth. Dropping it, Minnowleg made a small hole and dropped the prey in, covering it with dirt. She looked up to Sparhawk, shrugging. "Guess my luck is changing? I dunno."

Sparhawk smiled when Minnowleg left and brought back the mouse. "See, I told you you were a good hunter. Nice catch." He hoped that now the orange she-cat would not feel so bad about herself.
